To determine if you have a clog or if you have a leak in your system try the following:
TO CHECK FOR A LEAK IN YOUR SYSTEM
Disconnect the pipe that comes from the house to the central vac unit. Put your hand over the opening directly at the central vac unit. (Using the utility inlet at the unit will not accomplish the same thing.) If suction is good reconnect the tubing and turn on the switch at the unit. If there is no switch, use a coin or screwdriver to short the two low voltage connectors that plug into the vac unit body. While the unit is running go to the exhaust. With everything closed, you should feel almost nothing coming from the exhaust. If you feel very little exhaust, then you do not have a leak. Go on to the next section on how to check for a clog. If you do feel exhaust, while your unitis still running walk around the house and listen for air leaks in the walls, ceiling, and basement. If you locate the loud whoosh of air,you may have found the leak location. You will have to access the tubing and make a repair.
TO CHECK FOR A CLOG IN YOUR SYSTEM
Check your hose first. Check the hose by dropping a nickle in the handle end to see if it makes it through the hose to the other end. If so, plug the hose into an inlet. At the handle end of your hose, cover the opening. Keep it covered for 10 to 15 seconds. Pull your hand away. If you hear a slight hiss followed by a reduction in suction then you have a clog. You will have to unclog your system with another vacuum. Disconnect your central vac dirt canister. Go to each inlet, insert the hose end of another vacuum into the opening at each inlet. (You may have to wrap duct tape around the hose end to insure a snug fit) Once you have unclogged your system and removed the debris, reconnect your dirt canister, andrun one of our Tornado Power Cloths through your tubing from each valve to remove any remaining debris. We recommend using these cloths on a monthly basis to prevent future clogs.
