Central Vacuum Systems for the Treatment of Pet Allergies
Years ago my nephew suffered from severe asthma. It was so bad that my sister had to give his puppy to my other sister because of his severe reactions to pet allergens. Today we have great news for people suffering from pet allergies.
I found this really creepy study done in Europe, but the news is great for those suffering from pet allergies. It seems folks that worked with lab animals (rats, guinea pigs, etc.) developed all sorts of nasty animal related allergies resulting in asthma, rhinitis, and conjunctivitis. The goal of the study was to find ways to reduce allergens caused from these animals, thus relieving the symptoms of lab workers.
Here's a link to the study:

"Traditionally floor cleaning has been carried out by dry sweeping or by using a portable vacuum cleaner. Portable vacuum cleaners without high-efficiency particulate air filtration on the exhaust may contribute to airborne dust by leakage through the filter. Portable vacuum cleaners may also contribute to airborne dust by disturbance of floor dust.
To minimize the spread of allergens, floors are first cleaned using a centralized vacuum cleaner that delivers dust into a closed pipe conveyor with deposition into a closed container. After vacuuming, floors are wiped using a moist mop."
After following the procedure above they concluded that vacuuming with a central vacuum system, followed by damp mopping greatly reduced the spread of pet allergens. This is great news for folks suffering from pet allergies.
Central vacuum systems are really not too difficult to install and folks don't know they can be retrofitted into most homes. Take a look for more information about installing a central vacuum system.
