The Last Central Vacuum Post of 2007

In a few hours it will be 2008 and another year will begin.  Roger and I are spending a quiet evening at home. 91461xs

We  were blessed to have all of our family with us at sometime during this holiday season.  Even my sister who lives in Honduras was here with her family for 10 days. We have seven grandchildren now, and they make Christmas so much fun! 0002_dsc_0823

Tonight our son Nathan and his family are back in Virginia; Dawn and her family are spending New Years at our Riverhouse; Faith and her husband are celebrating with friends;  Thomas has gone back to Georgia Tech; and Micah learned today that he  is being offered a four year ROTC scholarship to the University of Tampa, so he is celebrating more than just the New Year.

We have great things planned for our company this year, so stay in touch by visiting our website and blog often.  At Central Vacuum we will be celebrating our 60th anniversary in 2008.  Today we launched a brand new "About Us" page.  If you get a chance take some time to read about our company history and who we are today.

Wet Pick-Up Central Vacuum Saves Christmas

Christmas_yoda The CIO of our company is our own personal Jedi Master of the Internet.  Unfortunately, yesterday he had another plumbing disaster at his house, and even The Force couldn't help him.  I don't have all the details yet, but he had a leak somewhere and there was water everywhere!  All I know is that he said his central vacuum wet-pick-up adapter saved the day.  The model he has holds five gallons and evidently he emptied it numerous times.  I really can't recommend these wet pick-up accessories enough.  If you have one on hand it is so easy to use your central vacuum to clean up any kind of liquid disaster.  There are a few different models, and they all do different things, but you need to take a look if you don't have one.

Central Vacuum System Helps Eliminate Fleas

Weim We love our dog, Rush.  He has short hair and spends most of his time indoors, so, thus far we have managed to avoid any real issues with fleas.  However, for 13 years we had an Irish Setter, Rusty the Wonder Dog.  He was perfect in almost every way.  That means he smelled and we constantly battled fleas.  Fleas can be a real problem for pet owners.  Someone sent me this article and I thought I would pass it on to our friends and customers.  The article discusses the effectiveness of vacuuming to control fleas.  A central vacuum would be the very best way to tackle this because those nasty little fleas would all go into the dirt canister, which is usually located away from your living space.  Many people are not aware that central vacuum systems can be retrofitted into existing homes, and the cost is usually much less than expected.

Valet Intercom System

My son, Nathan,  is here from Virginia for our family Christmas.  We all got together last night for a great Italian feast; pasta, gnocchi, meatballs, sausage, bracciole, red sauce, and an antipasta. Yum!   We opened presents afterwards, and as you can imagine, with seven children, five being under the age of six, bedlam ensued...but it was fun!  Everyone was here except out son, Thomas. He is a junior at Georgia Tech and this week is final exams, so he couldn't make it home.  Nathan told me I should blog about the Valet intercom system.  He retrofitted one in his two story house and he said it was really easy.  The Valet is nice because it is small and has select call which allows you to call privately between rooms. He also installed a small built-in cd player.   You can read more about the Valet  intercom on our website.

Rust and Central Vacuum System Dust Cans

The other day I emptied my debris can.I only need to do this every 6 months. This is due to the extra large can that is part of my unit. Before I returned it to my unit,I noticed a collection of hardened debris
approximately 2" thick in the bottom of the can. This is due in part to the humidity in our area, especially in the summer months.I scraped the stuff from the can with a putty knife and noticed rust starting to form.I scraped the rust out and washed the can with soap and water.I then dried it thoroughly and returned it to the unit. I say this to suggest to our customers with metal dust can units to clean and wash those cans at least once a year. The clumps of moist hardened debris can start rust spots that will eventually become holes that will cause you to lose suction.
